BUILDING INFORMATION MODELING

PK ASSOCIATES’ structural engineering team has extensive experience in Building

Information Modeling (BIM). Our firm designed over $10,000,000,000 in advanced

technology facilities in the 1990’s. Three dimensional models were required for advanced

technology design in order to integrate the structural design with the architectural,

mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and process piping. This experience provided an

opportunity for our firm to be on the cutting edge of 3D technology.

 

Our 3D modeling experience presented a natural transition into Building Information

Modeling. The BIM process requires knowledge and good coordination between all

disciplines in order to maintain the accuracy of the models.  The interdiscipline model helps

all parties see the major elements of the building in 3D as the design progresses. During

structural design we utilize REVIT 3D for providing models of the buildings. The integration

of our structural design software applications creates a great avenue for project information

to be more complete and provide information for better cost estimates and schedule

verification.
